Suite à ses propos controversés, et disons-le, la réaction un tantinet disproportionnée qui s’en suivit, Madame Jan Wong se plaint dorénavant d’être l’objet de propos racistes, dus à ses racines asiatiques.
Jan Wong said Monday she’s received e-mails laced with profanity and has been attacked for her Asian heritage. “I think it’s really healthy that people disagree with me,” Wong told CBC Radio in Montreal on Monday. She said debate is good but “there have been racist and sexist attacks.”
Specifically, she cited a cartoon that appeared in Montreal Le Devoir on Friday.
The editorial cartoon shows her with slanted eyes, glasses and large teeth, cracking open Wong’s fortune cookies to read a fortune that says, “Beware of Bill 101,” the province’s controversial language law. “You can attack my journalistic style or my methods but to bring in fortune cookies is now bringing in my ethnicity,” she told CBC.

Le racisme présumé des Québécois et son propre racisme à notre endroit sont les prémisses, l’une explicite et l’autre tacite, sur lesquelles Mme Wong fondait son argument. Il est assez divertissant de la voir maintenant chercher la paille dans l’oeil du voisin.
Assez divertissant aussi de la voir accepter que l’on critique son style et ses méthodes… en évitant de mentionner notre droit de critiquer son contenu!
